I really think Coco Rocha should get to China. Beijing is one of the most inspiring cities i’ve been to. Basically its fucking cool, complex and inspiring.
I feel that China as a nation will go through incredible changes as its people engage in social media.
CHINA - The next social media frontier.
After over 2 years on twitter I recently passed a huge milestone of 200,000 followers. That might be a drop in the bucket if your Lady Gaga or Kim Kardashian, but for me, I never thought that many people would be interested in what I had to say. Twitter has been an amazing tool for me to reach out to others and as a service it’s uniting people from all around the world. Except, of course, in a few countries where it’s under ban.
One of those countries happens to have 1.3 billion citizens: China.
As an experiment, back in October I signed up for the Chinese eqivalent of Twitter, a service called Tencent Weibo and I was shocked at the results. In just over 2 months of using the service I now have over 100,000 new friends China. At this rate I imagine that this number will surpass my twitter followers within a few weeks. I really had no idea China had such a crowd of people interested in the life of a high fashion model but I’m very happy to have found them half the world away!
The Great Wall of China is all you think it’s going to be and more. I was a bit, OK, here-we-go-with-the-touristy-shit… But once i was doing that full-on hike, i felt on top of the world. There weren’t that many people and it was a beautiful clear, cold day. I’m all cliche’s, i know, but sometimes these cliches ring true and being on the Great Wall of China was incredible. I kept thinking “how did i ever end up here?”
Shanghai so far… Loving this complex city.
"OK. This is fucking crazy. I am going to China in about nine hours. I have to do a little work on an assignment (fucking referencing) then I board a plane to Shanghai. I am so ready and also not. I have no plans once i get there but i know i am going to Beijing and i’m going to eat lots of food and walk… and some write. I want to get back to my writing. It feels surreal that only today i was working at a box office and that this time tomorrow i will be in another part of the world."
— Me on a couch at 9:12 pm Brisbane time.
"In four days i will be in Brisbane… I will be working for the Brisbane International Film Festival and then on the 14th of November i am on my way to China… I have to finish intense amounts of school work but it will and has to be done."
I am about to start teaching rounds, I leave to Brisbane to work at the film festival in less than four weeks, I will be working day and nights and have to hand in three assignments but the silver lining is the trip to China!! And what a reward that is! The year has been a pain in the ass as i have had to take some steps back to make some steps forward and it’s all good but there will be nothing better then feeling like an explorer in a country such as China… I am a lucky, lucky man. For now, its Saturday night, and i am happy to chill!
